I went to paint a jaguar in a tree. Instead, everything took over. Animal, leaves, branches, heat and color became one tangled ecosystem. It looks chaotic, but nature rarely is. There’s an order to the wild, even when we can't see it.

My Work
I didn’t set out to paint a body of work about gender, motherhood, labor or identity. I started by painting things I was drawn to—animals, exaggerated forms, strange landscapes, color and contrast.
But certain things kept showing up.
Horns. Tusks. Nature. Formidable femininity. Males made softer. Animals carrying ornamental weaponry. Color and texture.
Somewhere along the way, the paintings started reflecting thoughts that I was already carrying: what makes us strong, what makes us soft, what we inherit, what we perform, where we feel at home, how wet grow, and what we hold that no one else can see.
I’m interested in the tension between those seeming contradictions. Masculine and feminine. Powerful and tender. Wild and domestic. Serious ideas painted in colors that don’t take themselves too seriously.
The result is work that is bright and sometimes playful at first glance, with something a little more complex underneath.
I’m less interested in developing a signature style than a signature curiosity. I’m giving myself permission not to pick a lane—to follow an idea wherever it leads, whether that’s an ox, a mermaid, a giant abstraction, or whatever strange thing asks to be painted next.
